Denomination
Golden Gate Community is part of the Nazarene denomination. The 15 articles of faith that follow provide the basic “Nazarene” understanding of the fundamental truths of scripture. You will find that these ideas are very much in the same spirit as the Apostle’s Creed. Over the centuries, we as a universal community of believers have come to understand more and more about the scriptures. At times, the church has emphasized one aspect of the creed as it became clear that the body of Christ needed to express its community life with a more balanced understanding of God.
The Nazarene church came into being believing that the last segment of the creed, that concerning the Holy Spirit, had lost influence in the life of the body of believers. More than any other article that follows, the 10th describes the New Testament picture of the Spirit dwelling in us to an ever-greater degree, forming us more and more in the likeness of Jesus. This articulation of the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit is perhaps the unique emphasis of the Church of the Nazarene.
